The simple definition of water hardness is the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water. Hard water is high in dissolved minerals, both calcium and magnesium. You may have felt the effects of hard water, literally, the last time you washed your hands. Depending on the hardness of your water, after using soap to wash you may have felt like there was a film of residue left on your hands. In hard water, soap reacts with the calcium (which is relatively high in hard water) to form “soap scum”. When using hard water, more soap or detergent is needed to get things clean, be it your hands, hair, or your laundry.
The presence of hardness minerals in drinking water is not known to pose a health risk to users, however, at higher concentrations creates the following problems:

As water contacts the complex alloy core of the Ecosoft fitting, the patented internal catalytic alloy generates an electro-chemical (galvanic) reaction causing the calcium ions to flocculate as a colloid.
Colloids do not settle or precipitate (or form scale) but always stay in-solution. These forced reactions change the crystalline structure of the minerals in the water creating a very fine non-sticking substance (colloid).
These colloids (soft water) won’t persist as the minerals would in the hard water and any residue left on a surface is easily removed.
Yes. Ecosoft softens water, because of the definite change in the characteristics of the minerals, the surface ‘tension of the water is reduced giving you softer, “wetter” water.
Yes, simply remove the corresponding length of pipe and install the Ecosoft water softener. This should be done by a licenced fitter or plumbing professional.

The Mobile Equipment Maintenance (MEM) department at Rio Tinto (Hope Downs) instigated a trial of an Ecosoft Water Econditioner on one of their Caterpillar MD6240 drill rigs.
The aim of the trial was to ascertain the effectiveness of the Ecosoft Water Conditioner in protecting the flushing water system and associated equipment from the build-up lime-scale caused by the use of ground (hard) water in the system.

Install the ECO220 water treatment system to all drills. Testing of the device installed to one machine has returned notable results.
Quotes and install instructions are attached. The supplier can supply kits or conduct the installs at sites request. EC notification refers to a truck install which did not occur at MWB. The device was installed on two drills DR3040 and DR3044. Photos in the EC notification attachments are of drill tanks and pipes.
